I’m Not Dead

4.5 Miles
Stranger Danger Strides (yes I ran with a stranger)

Yes I’ve been MIA.  I’d like to think that it’s because I’ve been sitting around taking part in marathons that involve binging on chocolate and trashy TV, but alas, it’s mostly because I’ve changed up the ol’ routine.  Bye bye crazy strides, hello, cross training and weight lifting.

Packing the contents of the home with one adult and 3 tiny-ish humans is exhausting.  And yes, I even got the bunk beds down myself.  #proudmoment

Don’t worry, I did some serious heavy lifting of other sorts on a few pack breaks over the weekend, so you can’t feel too sorry for me.

And besides, those champagne glasses were really heavy as well….

IMG_3876With a move looming over me the last few days, and leading up to the big haul this week, the blog’s been a little sidelined….along with my running.

That said, this morning I hit the road for an early run and ended up literally running into a local runner, we peeled a few miles out together and I forgot just how delightful the running community can be…mostly because I haven’t been running that much.

I suppose carrying your body weight times 20 up and down the stairs for days on end will rob of you motivation rather quickly.  But I guess ants do that every day, so why am I complaining?

In non-related running news – are you a lover or hater of moving?
I LOVE I have purged so much stuff from the house…but am starting to wonder just how empty the new place will be now that I’ve gotten rid of so much.  That said I just want to be in my new bed, in my new room, with my new patio furniture serving up drinks to whomever wants to come over.  Any takers?

True Confession Thursday: Slacking Galore

???  When did I run last ???
Shutout Strides

Shhh….don’t tell anyone.  I can’t remember the last time I ran.  I think it’s been almost a week.  No bikes, no strides, no swims, no cardio…nothing, nada, zilch.

Seriously, it’s been about 2 years since I couldn’t recall the last time I ran….and I can blame it all on the flu….and Chicago weather, but that just makes me look like a weenie so let’s stick with blaming it on the flu.

We got hit hard this year.  And since everyone’s still on the mend, and my running’s lacking…so since I have nothing running to discuss, let me just give you the flu in pictures.

NYE Masquerade Ball – jealous?

We like to couch it….3 naps a day.

IMG_2763Why Mommy’s not running…anything but her nose at least. Why run when you have fun mirror mustaches?

IMG_2756Fever-shmever…it’s Justin Bieber!  Getting our Dance Party on….

One of the worst parts of parenting is knowing there’s not much you can do to help your kids when they’re sick and/or in pain…so there was a lot of growth over the holiday as we spent about 10 days fighting fevers, flus, bugs and the winter blues in Chi-town.

What’s your best cold/flu fighting secret?
I don’t have a secret to fight it, but I find whine and wine work well to cope with it.

What’s your hidden talent?
I dare anyone to challenge me to Just Dance 3 – C&C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat”.  Game – freaking – on.

A Not So Sweaty Christmas

In my brilliant planning I didn’t realize that peak week training would hit right at Christmas.

Despite the busyness , I still had grand plans to squeeze in my 22 miler last weekend.

Then this happened.

KleenexAnd then this happened.

Thank you $2 corkage fee and heavy French meal for destroying my 22 miler

Thank you $2 corkage fee and heavy French meal for destroying my 22 miler

And eventually I eeked out 7.5 very slow miles…which probably did nothing for conditioning and simply served to clear my sinuses temporarily.  Then I didn’t run for 5 days.

Instead, I spent my time flying across the country to see my family in the frozen tundra Chicago.

Some of you ate nice breakfasts at home for Christmas morning. We managed tacos on the plane for brunch. How LA chic.

And while there was a little of this

And definitely some of this

IMG_2713There was very little use for any of this in my stocking…

IMG_2702So as the fevers and coughs seem to be dissipating and my body is acclimating to the frigid air…perhaps I’ll dust off the old running shoes and get back on marathon track.

How was your holiday?
Did you get coal in your stocking?
